I thought I start the blog as the kids are heading back to school today! Yeah!!!! We went to meet the teacher yesterday, and as I was driving I was clapping while the boys were in the back seat looking like why is dad so happy!

To me the summer blew by, with football, basketball, first aid and golf camps not to mention the extra tutoring support, our summer went by fast. As the schools are going back and starting up, I don’t know about your home but for us (myself, Holly, Daniel II, David, Darren & Drew), school is always in session. We are always training, teaching and finding moments to provide guidance that will always be needed. From preparing Daniel for 8th, David for 6th, Darren for 4th, and Drew for potty training. Scripture said it best, train up a child in the way they should go and when they grow older they will not depart from it. This scripture didn’t say, when they sit at a desk, when they carry back packs or when they walk inside a school. It just said train, so that can happen any place and at any time. Now the one place it must happen is at HOME!

Let’s be real if no training is happening at HOME, we can forget about successful training at school! We’ll put a lot of emphasis on what teachers, administrators, and county leaders are doing when the real problem rest at HOME! It’s the family’s primary responsibility to raise the child. In today’s times we need the entire family, mom, dad, grandparents, uncles and aunts to chime in. Every member of the family has to play an active part in the child’s growth and development. If some of those components are not there, the parents must find someone that you trust who can help fill those gaps. I like football, so I’ll use this analogy…if our child was the quarterback and there are gaps in the Offensive line, the defense is going to come in and come in hard. So we need to fill the gaps with parents, grandparents, ministers, coaches, other family members and friends who are willing to help.

When we send them back, don’t just send them back with school supplies (pen, paper, notebooks) but send them back mentally ready, more organized, with a better attitude as best you can. We took a day going through their class supply list (keep in mind that’s 3 lists!!!) making sure they have everything needed. Then we discussed our expectations and prepared them mentally for the grade level they are going into this year. Lastly, we explained that they should play with friends during breaks like lunch or recess and not in class…listen to the person in charge which is the teacher. These are small reminders to them that helps prepare them for a new school year.

I was happy school started back because we can now get back into our routine and having the extra help (teachers) so we can fill in the gaps.

Be Blessed,
